What is a "Shire?"
For internal purposes, the SCA
is organized into geographic entities called "branches" with somewhat
fanciful names. SCA
branches are often hard to define in terms of "real-world" nations,
states, and territories.
In decending order of size, the kinds of branches you are likely
to encounter are:
1. Kingdoms (largest)
2. Principalities, Regions, and Crown
Principalities
3. Baronies, Provinces, Shires, and Strongholds
4. Cantons and Ridings (smallest)
